Solo Cups: Knowledge

I was curious about the lines on solo cups the other weekend and learned something amazing. This information should be taught in an intro class to all high schoolers and college students. 

It turns out that the lines of the solo cup allows you to measure out a shot, a glass of wine, and a beer. This would have been ridiculously helpful during my partying years!

“Out” is a campaign started by Chris Jasinski, a sophomore at American University in Washington, D.C.; Chris is an openly gay man who grew up Cary, North Carolina. This initiative seeks to provide a source of solidarity and hope by allowing individuals who have come out to share their stories. Why now? Through constant activism, the GLBT rights movement has made great strides over the past several decades. The America of 2012 is far different from the LGBT community than the America of the 1960s. Still, however, questioning youth commit suicide each year as a result of ignorance in communities throughout the U.S., and the lack of visible role models in the GLBT community. In fact, according to Mental Health America, questioning individuals are 300 percent more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual counterparts. The stories in “Out” are meant to give a better understanding of what it means to come out, and in some regard, what it means to be gay in the United States. The videos provided by this campaign are aimed to show the diversity throughout the GLBT community and how these individuals’ sexuality is only a small portion of their greater whole. Still, by “coming out” these individuals can allow the best version of themselves to enter the game.
